Most of the Woodland
Shores was developed starting in the 1920s as a
rural area on small wooded lots with minimal amount of
control from the town government. With a perfect view of Lake Michigan,
Woodland Shores holds high potential. While mainly
residential in nature, Woodland Shores has some
prime lakefront properties that carry good potential
for commercial redevelopment. The area has very little retail and
minimal employment in services and light
manufacturing.

However, this area
has also seen exciting development in the 1990s and
into the new century, including a new hospital and a
related medical services building and multi-family
housing.
Since the entire area sits within a
few hundred feet of the Lake, it is very much
subject to the Lake Effect, part of the charm of
this neighborhood.
