The number of homes
for sale in any single city is not a very accurate
barometer of an area's economic health or vitality.
It can indicate any number of things, some of them
negative (people moving from the area) and some of
them positive (people "buying up" into larger
homes). The market is also affected by such things
as interest rates.
One thing is for sure
- a good housing inventory is attractive to those
considering moving to an area. If there is not a
good market for homes, they are apt to go elsewhere.
So, are there "a lot"
of homes for sale in Two Rivers? The last time we
checked in early 2004, Two Rivers ranked in the
middle of the pack when it comes to the percentage
of homes that are on the market.
An interesting side
note, of the 11 cities included in the study, Two
Rivers had the third lowest equalized tax rate. The
tax rate did not seem to be an indicator of the
number of homes for sale. While the lowest taxed
city (Allouez) also had the lowest percentage of
homes for sale, the city with the second-least
percentage of homes for sale (Sheboygan) ranked 8th
in taxes. Green Bay ranked 10th in taxes but only
5th in percentage of homes for sale.
