Two Rivers is blessed by Lake
Michigan, our two rivers,
Woodland Dunes Nature
Center and
Point Beach State Forest. While they
define our city's environment and culture, they also
serve to restrict our growth. Future growth will
take place mainly to the north, which we saw in the
80s and 90s with the growth of new residential
construction along and north of 45th Street. With a
cost of living that is half that of the suburbs of
Milwaukee and Chicago, growth potential is high.
The majority of growth in the 1990s
occurred in the northwest section of the city. This
included both residential development along Columbus
Street and industrial growth in the
Columbus Street
Industrial Park. There has also been growth in the
Woodland Drive Industrial Park, which sits on land
annexed into the city to allow for growth.
Since about 2000, the northeast
side of the city has experienced growth spurred by
the construction of the new
Two Rivers High School
and the new
Eggers Industry
plant. The city-owned
Sandy
Bay Highland Subdivision is also growing. Residential growth is also
taking place Washington
Highlands in the central city at the former site
of the high school In our
downtown area, new development includes
Walgreens Drug Store,
Family Video and
Lakefield Communications.
Improvements to the city-owned infrastructure in the
downtown area in recent years include the
reconstructed Washington Street, new
Lester Public
Library, a new fire station, the remodeling of
the City Hall/police station, and the remodeling and
updating of the Hamilton Community House.
Two Rivers has been
progressive and aggressive in development. Since
1999, there has been more than $150 million in
construction in the city. We'd like to add you to
the list of development projects.
